San Diego, CA -- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors today
unanimously approved the acquisition of two North County properties.
The land is needed to expand Bear Valley Parkway in
unincorporated Escondido, between Boyle Avenue and Highway 78. The
County has already negotiated real property contracts to acquire or
use 41 of the 50 properties necessary to complete the project.
“No one likes to sit in traffic,” says County Supervisor Bill Horn. “This expansion will ease congestion and greatly improve the commute for Escondido and Valley Center residents trying to get to Interstate 15.”
The total cost of this property acquisition is $701,000, which includes the market value purchase price, road, slope and drainage, along with temporary construction easements. Funding for the project is included in the Department of Public Works’ Operational Plan for 2011-2012 and covered by TransNet. There will be no impact to the General Fund.
Once completed, the County-owned portion of Bear Valley will be four lanes wide, with a center median, bicycle lane, and sidewalk. It will connect to the existing four lane segment in Escondido and eliminate the bottleneck that exists today. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2012 and is expected to be completed within two years.
