NORTH COUNTY BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS RECEIVE MAJOR BOOST FROM SUPERVISOR HORN

SAN DIEGO – Six North County Boys & Girls Clubs will receive grants from Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn totaling $70,000 for capital improvements, programs, and fund-raising events.

“For decades, our North County Boys & Girls Clubs have had a tremendous impact in keeping young people from the destructive influences of gangs and drugs,” said Supervisor Horn. “It’s critical that we help them provide positive and fun environments for at-risk children and teens. These discretionary Community Projects grants are an excellent investment in the lives of kids.”

The grants are as follows:

  • $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Vista to partially cover costs associated with purchasing an air conditioning unit and removal of ceiling materials
  • $10,000 to Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos to purchase equipment and supplies for their new Teen Center
  • $10,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Oceanside to help cover the costs of renovating their gymnasium floor
  • $10,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad to pay for educational and promotional materials associated with their Gangbusters and Keystone programs
  • $20,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego for educational and promotional materials for the Junior Leaders programs of clubs in Borrego Springs and Valley Center
  • $10,000 to Boys & Girls Club of North County to pay for costs of hosting their annual Auction and Dinner event to be held May 31, 2008

The grants are contingent on the clubs first raising matching funds.
